An evolutionary leap

RIM released the latest member of its powerful smartphone family – Blackberry Torch. Looks really cool and I wanna try it sometime soon. The tagline that comes with Torch’s advertisements and commercials, however, is amusingly confusing: “Less an evolutionary leap, more like a triple axel.” What does that mean? Is that another way of saying, yep, it is fancy, but that’s it?

This reminds me of a recent trip to the National Air & Space Museum in Washington, D.C. It is one of the best museums I have ever been, along with Museo Prado, Shaanxi Province History Museum, and National Museum of American History, also conveniently located in the Mall.

So during my visit, I had this wonderful volunteer who walked us visitors through the ground floor, and he mentioned, in front of the lunar lander, that Neil Armstrong, with the prestige of being the first on the moon, spoke that now famous “That’s one small step for [a] man, one giant leap for mankind.”

Everyone knows that.  But the tour guide went on to talk about Pete Conrad, the third man ever to walk on the moon during Apollo 12. Guess what he said?

Whoopee! Man, that may have been a small one for Neil, but that’s a long one for me.
